Reiki is usually translated as "universal or universal life energy", which - according to the Reiki teaching - should be present in everything that lives. It is the basis of Reiki treatment and training.
The concept of Reiki is not plausible from a scientific point of view. So far, none of the numerous studies have been able to prove Reiki healing. In the clinical studies, no effect was found or significant methodological weaknesses were found.
Reiki is the esoteric version of healing by laying on of hands (and a special symbol work). This is intended to influence health. The healer uses various techniques of laying on of hands. Reiki calls this "energy work". Reiki also offers the possibility of reiki self-treatment, as well as the treatment of another person. At the beginning of the Reiki treatment, the practitioner ensures good blood circulation in his hands, which should promote energy transfer from the healer to the patient. According to Usui Mikao, the founder and inventor of Reiki, the subsequent laying on of hands is to take place in a specific sequence on different body regions, in which certain "chakras" should be taken into account. Chakras are said to provide the body with energy.
In Japan, the country of origin, Reiki is taught in different versions (systems). In the West, the number of "initiations" courses that are subject to a fee varies. Every Reiki teacher handles it differently.
Reiki was founded by the Japanese Mikao Usui: Mikao Usui opened the first Reiki clinic in Tokyo in 1921. Nothing is known about the origin of the Reiki teaching. The epitaph of the founder reveals that Mikao Usui learned the knowledge of Reiki through a vision during a 21-day fasting cure on Mount Kurama, north of Kyoto. In Reiki teaching, a channel for energy is opened with every initiation. Without the initiation no channel would be open and the treatment would have no effect.
There are usually three to four grades up to the Reiki teacher training:

Third degree (master degree): initiation to the "master symbol"

Reiki users believe that, like other forms of energy work, they do not work with their own energy. After being initiated by a teacher, they see themselves as a channel for the Reiki energy.
